The Society of the Daughters of the Cross run the tuition and remedial classes in Dadhwada, Gujarat, India.
This community of religious sisters have been working in deprived rural areas in South Gujarat since many decades. They have been involved in health care and educational needs of the most underserved in that area, often working with the most meagre resources.
The immense majority of the tribals in this area depend on agriculture for their living. Many of them possess small holdings of agricultural land, too small to produce enough for the family.
Others depend on daily wages working for other farmers when they need help.
Their children go to local village schools but the education is so poor that when they come into mainstream schools which the Society specially run for them - they find that they are poor in Maths, Gujarati & English.
Through the project the Society want to empower these youth with the skills that will both increase their confidence and better equip them for their future job or further studies.
